Part 4 - Skin - Are your products making you sick? Toxins in your soap!
Toxins in your soap!

The four most toxic chemicals found in your soap.

1. Fragrance - Soap. Candles. Shampoo. Conditioner. Lotion. Face wash. Serums. And more! All of these products contain fragrance. As yummy as these treats may smell, they contain carcinogens. Further, leading to cancer and other health defects including hormone disrupting. What exactly is a fragrance? Essentially, it is made up of chemical compounds. Which chemical compounds combine to create such a toxic substance, ‘fragrance.’ It is impossible to know! That’s right, the cosmetic industry is NOT required to disclose the ingredients they use. In 1938, the industry was granted self-regulation. Since then, over 25,000 chemicals are marketed without government intervention. When product’s containing fragrance are used, unknown toxic chemicals are absorbed into the skin. Further, entering the bloodstream. They do not leave our bodies! These chemicals will store in our cells and break down our immune system.  This is where essential oils come into the picture. These oils are 100% from Mother Earth, and pose no threat to our health. In fact, they have many physical, mental, and emotional benefits.

2. Triclosan - This nasty chemical was apparently banned in USA in September 2016. Turns out, we can still find Triclosan, an antibacterial and antimicrobial chemical, in the following bar soaps;  - Cetaphil Gentle Cleansing Bar and many other Antibacterial Soap Bars. This chemical is also be found in shaving creams, deodorant, toothpaste, etc.  Typically used as a pesticide, studies from University of Maine biochemist Julie Gosse, PhD, suggest the affects on mitochondria. In which case, is essential for reproduction. Gosse states, “We know that it harms mitochondria, and we know that mitochondria function is essential for reproduction, and we know that triclosan affects reproduction.” Ted Schettler, MD, science director for the Science and Environment Health Network in Eugene, OR, states “Because of its use in so many products, it enters the environment, it enters the sewage system. Triclosan has been detected in fresh water streams and rivers all over the country. … It’s been measured in fish that we eat and in vegetables, so we can get it indirectly as it moves through.” It has even been linked to lower testosterone levels and less sperm production. Not to mention effects on the thyroid, which produces essential hormones for brain development in children.  I could continue, but the conclusion is simple. Though hundreds of studies, it has been proven that Triclosan is NOT safe.  “Why do companies use harmful chemicals?” This question lingers in the back of everyone’s head…  It is simply cheaper and more convenient than using natural ingredients. Shelf life is longer, better storage, cheaper production, faster production, etc. It is all about the money!! Avoid Triclosan and other unnecessary chemicals in your daily products. Making a simple switch of soap is a great place to start…

3.Sulfates - Commercial soap contains ingredients like Sodium Lauroyl Isethionate, Stearic Acid, Lauric Acid, Sodium Isethionate, Water, Sodium Stearate, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Sodium Chloride, Tetrasodium Edta, Tetrasodium Etidronate, Titanium Dioxide, SODIUM LAURYL SULFATE, SODIUM LAURETH SULFATE.

4. Synthetic Colours - A lot of so called natural soaps sold at markets are brightly coloured and they have used synthetic colours which when used on your skin get absorbed in to the bloodstream. This is particularly important if you try to avoid artificial colours in your children’s diets. Anything we put on our skin is absorbed. Which is why if I wouldn’t eat it, I won’t use it on my skin.

Meet Tanya Jackson - Better Life Essentials

Improving health and wellbeing, has always been important to me and I'm keen to share what I have learnt with you!

We ARE able to support our own health through choices we make on a daily basis.  Keeping our bodies functioning as nature intended, is something I am passionate about.  We all have our own issues to deal with, whether it's hereditary, lifestyle or just lack of motivation.

Like most people,  life gets busy, I don’t get the opportunity to slow down as much as I would like.  However, our health is worth making the time, because if we don't have our health it impacts every aspect of our life.  I learnt this when my hormone levels were so out of balance it was disrupting everything and something needed to change.  I didn't know where to start but I knew I had to make changes.  How do you know what to change though?

I didn't want to be lacking energy all the time!  I needed support and then I discovered a natural alternative to coffee and it would help me throughout the day and give me my energy back. Now I am able to exercise daily, run around after the children, run a business and have fun every day!  I’m full of life again!

If you are feeling exhausted a and want some support from others that know how it feels.  Come join our group of amazing people and learn how you can find freedom with the knowledge and information we share in our exclusive community.
